Life is not measured in minutes, but in moments…

Last Saturday, 21 February 2009, that was the day.

I just reached home after my latest purchase of NEC VERSA S3500 when I received the unexpected phone call. I looked at the LCD Screen of my mobile phone. Rai’s name was there.

“Dym, I have bad news…” That were the exact first few words uttered by Rai. What followed after that left me in shock. Not believing what I heard, I asked her numerous questions; whether it’s Zack as in the Zack that I knew; whether it’s Zack as in Veeky’s Zack, etc. With the utmost shock in me, I started to bombard Rai with questions - how, what, why, when, who…

The next thing that came across my mind was to call Veeky - to confirm the news and if the news is true, to make sure that she’s alright. The line couldn’t get through though. I called Roy - nope, couldn’t get through. I called Susan then. The news WAS true. I asked Susan about Veeky.

Veeky was on the way back to KL from Kuching, that’s what Susan told me. And worse, Veeky might be waiting for Zack to pick her up at the airport. My heart felt so terribly heavy at that time. Shock + Sadness = Speechless. I was trembling when I told my boyfriend and his cousin that my friend had passed away. I felt like crying, listening to my own voice conveying the heartbreaking news.

The initial plan was to go to Shah Alam with Zaim & Norwen. But that plan had to be aborted since I had to go to Bukit Jalil first. Not exactly so sure as to the whereabouts of SMC @ KPJ Selangor, I took the Federal Highway heading to Shah Alam. My concentration was locked at the road signs - Section 21 - until I reached the Panasonic factory and realized that I was lost. I stopped my car to ask for direction. One fella who looked like one of the factory workers pointed to the Panasonic factory and insisted to me that that was SMC. Politely, I nodded and smile at him before driving off to make a U-turn. My car passed that fella again. I could see from my rear view mirror that he kept of pointing to the factory while looking at the direction of my car.

I stopped my car a few meters away from the factory and gave a call to Rai. I proceeded to drive to what I understood as the direction given by Rai. Obviously my understanding was wrong. I saw a sign board that showed, “Tanah Perkuburan…” Yes, that was eerie. I decided to make another U-turn and called Zaim for direction. The phone was passed over to Norwen. I then proceeded to drive to what I understood as the direction given by Norwen. The right one, this time. Despite the sign on the hospital that said, “KPJ” instead of “SMC”, somehow I knew that I was already at the correct place.

As soon as I drove through the entrance of the hospital, I saw a lot of familiar faces, all sad and troubled; some with red teary eyes; some expressionless.

A lot of friends were there - a lot. This somehow showed how much Zack meant to his friends. How shocking the news was to his friends. How news like this was so unexpected and so uncalled for. How friends will come all the way to give our last goodbye, to show respect and to show how much we care.

Zack has always been a good person - a good friend to most people. He was smart, funny, nice, friendly, honest and never failed to amuse. I knew him since 2000, when we first started to do our pre-law. Gradually as years gone by, I started to know him better. Though we have never been so close a friend to each other, he will always be a friend that I will cherish.

The most unforgettable moment was of course that day when we were still doing our chambering. After one of the CLE talks, Zack, Zaim & I decided to hang out together. Zack brought us to the firm he was chambering in at that time - Messrs Sharizad, Rashid & Lee. That was the first time I went into that firm. We went to the library, where the chambering students were seated then. Then we decided to spend the night watching movies in Zaim’s place until the wee hour of the next morning. I was the fasting month in 2006 at that time. We had sahur together before heading home… Eversince that day, everytime when I bumped into Zack, he will always teasingly asked me, “Bila lagi nak lepak, Dym?” *sigh*

Life is indeed so short and indeed unpredictable. Who would have guessed a nice fella, with bright future ahead of him, would leave his family & friends in the tender age of 27.

The post-mortem was carried out at Klang Hospital instead of KPJ. I saw the van leaving KPJ Selangor heading towards Klang, escorted by a police car. Few minutes later, a green CRV followed the lead. It’s Steph, with a distraught looking Veeky inside, calling for me. I waved. I wanted to go there, to see Steph, to see Veeky, to tell her not to be sad (although of course it’s hard not to be). But the CRV was already holding a traffic; hence I decided not to. I waved some more and the CRV left.

It was starting to drizzle then.

Rain… Is always good, especially on days like that…

I seldom check the forwarded emails in my email account. But today, I decided to check on this one email, forwarded by a dear friend of mine. Yup, she seldom forward “stuffs” to my email. So yeah, so I decided to check out what’s so interesting about this email that made her decided to forward & share it onwards. Here it is. An interesting “facts” (if I may call it). An insight and a reminder to everyone out there. Just thought that this is something worth sharing. Enjoy…

Interesting quote from the movie ‘Why did I get married?’

In most cases, especially in relationships, you will only get 80% of what you NEED and you will hardly get the other 20% that you WANT in your relationship. There is always another person (man or women) that you will meet and that will offer you the other 20% which is lacking in your relationship that you WANT And believe me, 20% looks really good when you are not getting it at all in your current relationship.

But the problem is that you will always be tempted to leave that good 80% that you know you have, thinking that you will get something better with the other 20% that you WANT.

But as reality has proven, in most cases, you will always end up with having the 20% that you WANT and loosing the 80% that you really NEED and that you already had.

Be careful in deciding between what you WANT and NEED in your life.

Adultery happens when you start looking for what you don’t have. ‘Wow, this girl in my office is a real looker. But it’s not her Wynona Rider features that got me. I’m crazy about her because she’s also understanding, intelligent, tender - so many things that my spouse is not’.

Somewhere along the way, you’ll find a woman or a man who will be more charming or sensitive. More alluring. More thoughtful. Richer. Have greater sex appeal. And you will find a woman or man who will need you and pursue you and go loco over you more than your spouse ever did.

Because no wife or husband is perfect. Because a spouse will only have 80% of what you’re looking for. So adultery takes place when a husband or wife looks for the missing 20%. Let’s say your wife is melancholic by nature.

You may find yourself drawn to the pretty clerk who has a cherry laugh no matter what she says: ‘I broke my arm yesterday, Hahahaha . . ..’

Or because your wife is a homebody in slippers and pajamas, smelling of garlic and fish oil, you may fall for a fresh-smelling young sales representative that visits your office in a sharp black blazer, high heels, and a red pencil-cut skirt Or because your husband is the quiet type, your heart may skip a beat when you meet an old college flame who has the makings of a talk show host.

But wait! That’s only 20% of what you don’t have.

Don’t throw away the 80% that you already have!

That’s not all. Add to your spouse’s 80% the 100% that represents all the years that you have been with each other. The storms you have weathered together. The unforgettable moments of sadness and joy as a couple. The many adjustments you have made to love the other. The wealth of memories that you’ve accumulated as lovers.

Adultery happens when you start looking for what you don’t have.

But faithfulness happens when you start thanking God for what you already have.

But I’m not just talking about marriage.

I’m talking about life!

About your jobs.
About your friends.
About your children.
About your lifestyles.

Are you like the economy airline passenger that perennially peeks through the door of the first class cabin, obsessed with what he’s missing? ‘They have got more leg room! Oh my, their food is served in porcelain! Wow, their seats recline at an 80% angle and they’ve got personal videos!’

I guarantee you’ll be miserable for the entire trip! Don’t live your life like that. Forget about what the world says is first class. Do you know that there are many first class passengers who are miserable in first class — because they are not riding in a private Lear Jet?

The main message???

If you start appreciating what you have right now, wherever you are, you are first class!

Fluorescent Halloween

Yup, that’s the theme that LHAG set for Halloween this year! Haha. In conjunction with Halloween and also merely because the LHAG-ians decided to go out and do something fun together (yeah, working is strictly prohibited on Friday night!), we all decided to have a bowling competition on Halloween night!!!

Yay! The venue was Cosmic Bowl @ Mid Valley Megamall. Honestly speaking, I am not good at all in bowling. But it’s the fun that matters, right! Haha.

They were about 10 teams of LHAG-ians last night, with each team having 3 players. I am lucky because my team members are both awesome bowlers!!! Yay! Yup, our Senior Associate, Shanmugam and another Associate, Teck King, both were so good, that their numerous strikes and spares could actually cover my lousy bowling turns. Haha…

Ooo, and coincidentally, there was a bowling tournament of the Melaka State government being held there last night as well. So yeah, in the midst of our game, the Menteri Besar Melaka came to pay a visit. Hehe. The Menteri Besar was there for the tournament, actually. And there were some RTM reporters around, with their big cameras overlooking our part of bowling alleys as well. Hopefully they didn’t mistaken our LHAG-ians bowling teams as part of the tournament thingy… :p

Halloween Cat Bowling Game

To complement this post, here’s a Halloween cat bowling game for you all!!! Enjoy!
Halloween Cat Bowling Game

If the flash player fails to load, you can click HERE to play the Cat Bowling Game.

The weekends have been well-spent, I would say.

On Saturday, I attended a “Open House” for Hari Raya celebration at Ara Damansara - Idza Hajar’s residence. Woke up quite late on that day actually. Yup, almost half of the day was gone because of another bad habit a.k.a. addiction - sleeping. Furthermore, it was raining very heavily on that day, only to add to the tendency to sleep well longer than expected. Haha.

Arrived at Idza’s place quite late, at around 9.00 p.m. actually. Suprisingly, her house was still full of people. Though not many ex-classmates were left (Yup, most of the people there were actually the friends’ of Idza’s father), it was a real pleasure to meet up with Idza and Ila again. This was of course one of the rare occassions when old friends can actually meet up and have a lil bit of chat about life in general. Wish I have came earlier though and got the chance to meet up with more ex-classmates. Oh well…

On Sunday, today, I attended another “Open House”. This time, it’s at Klang. Yup, my good friend, Zainal a.k.a. Abang Zainal. It has been a LONG time since we last met. And yes, it was so good to meet up with him & his whole family again. Hmm… Time sure flies so quickly. It has been 2 years now since my Uni days and yes, a lot of changes have taken place - in myself, friends, etc.

Yup, Idza is 3 and a half months pregnant now. I still remember last year in December when she just got married and I attended the wedding. A couple of friends had gotten married and with kids now as well. Abang Zainal’s kids had grown up quite big as well… 10 months now. I used to remember visiting when the baby was just born… How time passed by without me realizing it.

And yes, it’s good that we have this ‘Open House’ thingy where friends can visit and catch up with one another. Yeah, it’s one of those reasons to make friends pay a visit to another, I guess.
